Swapping out the old 2013 Trashcan Mac for the new 2019 rackmount Mac Pro was seamless and only took a few hours. Having 6 Thunderbolt 3 ports and 4 USBC ports helped connectivity as well, along with 7 PCI slots.

We felt the convenience of sticking with Mac OS and not having to make a big OS change was worth the few thousand extra dollars. have not gotten back to us yet with a recommended configuration and this was a time-sensitive purchase.Ĭlick to expand.As I've said many times here, we priced a very similar configuration from Dell as a z8 and a pre-built system from Puget Systems, and I think one was $17,000 and the other was right around $15,500. we have nothing against PCs, newly released parts are in short supply & Puget, etc. Would love to hear from other 2019 Mac Pro users who have similar (or different) configurations. We also intentionally waited approximately a year to acquire the system in the hopes it would be more stable by then.
Especially under 4k+ R3D & Neat Video related tasks, otherwise we’re not getting much significant boosts in performance which will result in this not being the worthwhile investment as originally intended.

We obviously would like to determine if Resolve can utilize the full resources of the 2019 Mac Pro in our configuration or otherwise. We would certainly like to conduct more tests but trying to manage them in between current projects, which is hard to do very formally. Note that we have tried configuring Resolve to utilize (2) discreet GPUs & for Neat Video to utilize (2) separate discreet GPUs as well and I believe it was worse. The above are the best results we could yield so far. Storage: 1TB Read (SSD x2 RAID 0) / 1TB Write (1TB Apple Boot Drive) R3D 5760x3240 Ģ017 iMac Pro ġ0-core / 128GB RAM / Radeon Pro VegaX 16GB GPU All have been configured as per Optimize Settings / Check Speed. Neat Video detects (4) discreet 32GB GPUs. All have been configured for use w/ Metal. Storage: 4TB Read (NVMe x4 RAID 0) / 2TB Write (NVMe x4 RAID 0) Testing was guided by Neat Video support team & we're using Neat Video v5.3.Ģ019 Mac Pro ġ6-core / 192GB RAM / (2) Radeon Pro Vega Duo 32GB GPU (128GB) Below are the test results for the Neat Video Efficiency Test, revolving around one of the many commonly used finishing resolution and source format for us. That said, initial tests revealed that the (2) systems didn’t perform as differently as expected and we needed conduct further testing. The very first test was a 90sec real world project that both systems rendered far too similar than expected ( 20:47 iMac Pro / 20:07 Mac Pro) and the stats were not documented other than “render at source resolution”. We had primarily upgraded to experience better efficiency with the program, especially with Neat Video Noise Reduction which is a primary focus in our Color work. We had just invested $20k in a new 2019 Mac Pro upgrading from our 2017 iMac Pro. We have a bit of a problem to solve at our office and need to pinpoint the issue within (14) days before our Return Policy expires with Apple. Hey all - hope everyone is doing well out there.
